UM E-Learning :: Guide on How to Create Course/portfolio. (For UM Staff only)

*To start using UM E-Learning, users must create their own course/portfolio.

There are two ways to create your own course/portfolio:
1. Auto create course by using Fetch Course function – for courses listed in UMISIS
2. Manually create a new course/portfolio.

 

1.      Auto create course/portfolio by using Fetch Course function – Fetch ISIS Course

ü Recommended: Create courses officially offered by UM (registered in Integrated Student Information System-UMISIS)
** This function is not available for Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry courses.

ü Using Fetch Course function will allow lecturers to:

·          Create the courses they teach in an easier way;

·          Get updated list of registered student for the current semester;

·          Get the course information provided in Student Information System.

      1.1.      To get the guide on how to use this function, refer to the notes on UME-Learning_Guide_on_how_to_Fetch_Course

      1.2.      After successfully creating the course, you can start managing it: Click My Portfolio icon, choose the course title, and click MANAGE button.

      1.3.      To start using any module in the course, from the left side menu, click the module manager link, e.g. Document Manager, to upload notes/documents into your course. Refer to Guide on How to upload notes/download notes.

 

2.      Manually create a new course/portfolio
For Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry courses, or for courses not officially registered in Integrated Student Information System, users have to create the course/portfolio manually.

      2.1.      To manually create a new course/portfolio,

a.      Click My Portfolio icon.

b.      Click New Portfolio button

* If you do not have the Create New Portfolio button, please email umelearning@um.edu.my

c.       Follow the step by step instructions.
Step 1:   Select your
              1. Faculty
              2. Department
Step 2:  Type in:
              a. Portfolio /Course Code ( Note: Do not put a space or symbol for the code)
              b. Portfolio Subject /Course Name
Step 3:   Type in Description of the Course
Step 4:  Choose Portfolio option

                                       i.      Portfolio/Course Status

·    Available - Open your course for students – to allow students to access your online course (recommended)

·    Unavailable - Close your course.

                                     ii.      Moderate Subscriber/Filter Subscription

·    Yes - Filter subscription/registration to the course (Recommended).

·    No - Automatically allow subscription/registration to the course.

                                    iii.      Portfolio/Course Type

·    Open to Public   - Allow anyone to subscribe/register for the course (UM staff, UM students & outsiders - Portal).

·    UM Community only - Allow ONLY UM staff & students to subscribe/register for the course (recommended)

·    Hidden – Lecturers have to manually add in students into their course.

                                   iv.      Major Category

·    Academic - The course is offered by UM

·    Non-Academic - The courses is not offered by UM

·    Training - Training Course

                                     v.      Staff ID /Portfolio Sub Group (recommended if the course is offered by another lecturer in the same session & semester).
-Type your initial  e.g.  AJ

Step 5 ::     Click Submit button

      2.2.      After successfully creating the course, you can start managing it:
Click My Portfolio icon, choose the course title, and click Manage button.

      2.3.      To start using any module in the course, from the left side menu, click the module manager link, e.g. Document Manager. To upload notes/documents into your course, refer to UMELearning_Guide_on_How_to_Upload_and_Download_Notes

      2.4.      To get students to register for the manually created course, please refer to Guide on How to Subscribe to UM E-Learning Course
